The clocks have sprung forward again and that means spring is finally here. And with the unpredictable weather we’ve seen this winter, there’s no better time to make sure everything is as it should be with your Nissan car.
A few quick checks can make sure you catch any issues and will prevent any damage from getting worse. Here’s how to get your Nissan ready for spring ahead of the warmer weather, longer days and any trips you have planned for the coming months.
The exterior of your Nissan car is a great place to start. The car’s body can take a beating from the wind, rain and freezing weather we’ve seen across the country this winter. Here’s what you want to look for:
Tyres: After driving on changeable road conditions, you’ll want to make sure your tyres are still fit for purpose. Check every tyre for adequate inflation and tread depth, as well as looking for any signs of uneven wear.
Windscreen wipers: Your wipers have probably been more active than usual during the colder (and rainier) months. Even though the weather should be improving, fully working wipers are crucial for visibility. Check for cracks, cuts, tears and any other signs of wear.
Paintwork: There’s nothing like a top to bottom wash to give your car a refresh. A thorough clean can help you identify any scuffs or scratches to the paintwork, so you can get it fixed before it gets worse. Now is also a great time to protect your Nissan’s finish by waxing.
Shocks and struts: Before you get in your car, check for any leaking, rusting, dents or other physical damage. If you notice the car rolling, swaying on turns, squatting when accelerating or sitting lower at one end than the other while driving, consider getting it looked at.
Brakes: It’s never a bad time to check your brakes, but it’s especially important after the worse driving conditions brought by winter. Check the entire system, including brake linings, rotors and drums.
Oil: Nissan’s servicing schedules are every 12,500 or 18,000 miles per year or every 12 months - What ever comes first. However, some Nissan models like the GTR, 370z & Navara will have different servicing sechedules so make sure you check with your Nissan dealer. Nissan oil is fully synthetic which gives it much longer life than traditional mineral oil which would generally need changing every 3,000-5,000 miles. If you haven’t changed your oil for some time, consider getting it replaced with a service before spring arrives.
Fluids: Oil isn’t the only liquid under your Nissan’s bonnet. Spring is also a good time to check on the car’s other fluids, such as brake and transmission fluid, antifreeze, windshield washer fluid and anything else you may have been using more of during the winter months. If you notice any puddles underneath your vehicle, it’s a good idea to get it inspected.
