The Nissan LEAF ended last year on a high when it scooped the top “Car of the Year” prize at the Stuff Magazine Gadget Awards 2019. The much-coveted prize was awarded to Nissan’s all-electric vehicle at the end of December, adding to its impressive list of accolades in time for the new year.

A MULTI-AWARD WINNING VEHICLE

The Stuff Gadget Award isn’t the first time the LEAF has been acknowledged for its industry leading design and impressive performance. Far from it, the electric car has earned itself a number of industry prizes over the years, recognising everything from its fuel efficiency to its popularity within the continent.

The Nissan LEAF’s current list of accolades includes a number of coveted prizes such as the Tokyo Motor Show’s 2011-2012 ‘Car of the Year Japan’ award, the Company Car Today CCT100 2019 Award’s ‘Electric Car of the Year’ and the New York International Auto Show’s ‘2018 World Green Car’ award. It’s a well-rounded selection of some of the industry’s most prestigious awards, covering everything from design features to green credentials, and they go to show why the Nissan LEAF has continued to be so popular since its release.

THE STUFF GADGET AWARDS 2019

Stuff Magazine’s annual awards exist to recognise the best innovations and developments in technology throughout the year. The awards cover twenty hotly contested categories in the world of consumer tech, recognising everything from the best smartphones and TVs to smart home products and cars. That means there is only one winner in the automotive category, and this year’s winning - and only - prize went to the Nissan LEAF.

According to Stuff Magazine’s Editor in Chief, James Day, “Cars are big gadgets on wheels and 2019 has been an amazing year for automobiles with ever more connected features and eco-friendliness without forfeiting performance. Nissan's LEAF has been a trailblazer for electric vehicles ever since its inception, and the latest model comes packed with a number of smart driver aids that guarantee massive grins when getting from A to B... or parking in a multi-storey."

It’s a massive achievement for the Nissan LEAF, which beat every other car on the market to take the prize in 2019. And, given the number of new electric and hybrid vehicles coming on to the market, it speaks volumes for the LEAF’s enduring performance and future-proof design.

A VEHICLE THAT’S FULL OF SURPRISES

While there is no shortage of other electric vehicles vying for the top spot, there were several features that made the Nissan LEAF stand out according to Stuff Magazine’s editors. As well as its spacious interior, practical performance and range of 239 miles per charge, the Nissan LEAF’s popularity speaks for itself. What really scored it the Car of the Year award, though, was the fact that it is packed with “the kind of tech you wouldn’t expect from such an affordable family car”. The Nissan LEAF makes driving incredibly easy and convenient thanks to its multitude of innovative technology features, making for a virtually carefree ride every time.
