The best selling crossover in the UK, the Nissan Qashqai, now has another accolade under its bonnet: the ‘best British built car’.
The Qashqai was awarded the impressive new title at the News UK Motor Awards 2018 earlier this month. The event is the first of its kind and the inaugural award ceremony took place at The News Building in London Bridge on Wednesday 10 October 2018, where News UK is based. The awards were judged by both consumers and automotive journalists from across News UK’s four news outlets - The Times, The Sunday Times, The Sun and talkSPORT, with winners announced across ten different categories in total.
Being the first car to achieve the title of ‘best British built car’ is a huge achievement for the Nissan Qashqai, which is built in the company’s Sunderland factory. The fact that the Qashqai was chosen by the reader vote and fought off some fierce competition from some of the UK’s most popular car models just goes to show how loved the Qashqai is across the country.
Since its first release in 2007, the popular crossover has been a hit with families in both the UK and Europe. That’s largely because the Nissan Qashqai offers a practical car to suit the everyday needs of busy families at an affordable price.
According to Nick Francis, Motoring Editor at the Sun on Sunday, “the Qashqai has the legacy of being the first car to spark Europe’s obsession with family SUVs ten years ago, and is still the yardstick against which all other crossovers are compared to.”
It’s a humbling legacy to live up to but the Nissan Qashqai continues to be a bestseller across the United Kingdom, and continues to improve with every new model. This year saw the introduction of a new enhanced Qashqai range, complete with efficient petrol powertrains and the all-new NissanConnect infotainment system.
Even though many car manufacturers have taken inspiration from the compact size of the Nissan SUV, the Qashqai hasn’t lost any of its popularity over the years. And it’s not hard to see why, especially since Nissan gave the model a sophisticated new look in 2017.
In addition to its sleek new appearance, the Nissan Qashqai has also had a number of other upgrades over the years. The old 1.2 and 1.6 turbos have been replaced by a pair of 1.3-litre four-cylinder turbos and the all-new media system adds a more seamless driving experience than ever before. It’s the same Qashqai the nation has come to love - only better.
