One of Honda’s most exciting recent releases was the Honda Clarity Fuel Cell. Debuted at the Geneva Motor Show alongside some of the most exciting new releases, Honda’s Clarity Fuel Cell had no problem getting all the right kind of attention when it was first unveiled to the public.
Here’s everything you need to know about the new Honda Clarity Fuel Cell that will be on its way soon and what it means for Honda drivers.
The Honda Clarity Fuel Cell is a Fuel Cell Vehicle (FCV), meaning it does not release harmful exhaust gases such as carbon dioxide into the environment. Whereas traditional petrol engines cannot run without a certain level of pollution, Fuel Cell Vehicles emit only water into the atmosphere, leaving little to zero effect on the environment.
The hydrogen used to power the Honda Clarity Fuel Cell is created through water electrolysis. Hydrogen is stored in the car’s tank and reacts with the air to create electricity, rather than needing to burn fuel. This renewable process minimises the car’s impact on the environment, making for a cleaner drive every time.
It’s part of Honda’s “Electric Vision” to make two thirds of its European cars run on more sustainable sources by 2025. This will include hybrid cars, plug-in hybrids, fuel cell vehicles and battery electric options.
“Man maximum, machine minimum” is one of Honda’s guiding principles, and it’s exemplified in the Honda Clarity Fuel Cell’s innovative solutions. The Honda Clarity Fuel Cell is the first production saloon to house the entire fuel cell powertrain under the bonnet, leading the industry with its innovative design. This world first move means there’s even more space on the inside, so passengers can expect nothing but a comfortable ride.
Honda doesn’t just want to move away from fossil fuels, but to show that we can be better off without them. With just a three minute fill-up, the new Honda Clarity Fuel Cell will be able to take you 385 miles (620km), a best-in-class range. And with refuelling taking no longer it would with a petrol car, you never need to worry about compromising time for fuel efficiency and being kind to the environment because you can now have it all.
The new Honda Clarity Fuel Cell will benefit from 60% more power density than the original model. The maximum output has also been raised to 130kW, making it more powerful than ever before.
There will be two driving modes available on the new Honda Clarity Fuel Cell, so you can choose the one to suit your drive. The normal driving mode balances fuel economy with direct response and performance, while Sport mode gives a more responsive experience when accelerating.
