At first glance, it might be hard to see the differences between Nissan’s most popular crossover cars. There are lots of similarities between the Nissan X-Trail and the Nissan Qashqai, so how do you choose the best Nissan crossover for you?

Perhaps the most noticeable difference between the Nissan Qashqai and the Nissan X-Trail is in their sizes. Although almost identical in width, the Nissan X-Trail is considerably longer than the Qashqai at 4,690mm (vs 4,394mm). At 1,710mm (vs the Qashqai’s 1,590mm), the X-Trail is also a taller vehicle. If size is important, it could be the deciding factor between the two.
Both Nissan crossovers have benefitted from improved fuel efficiency in their newest models, but the Qashqai has more engine options available. Both Nissan cars are available with a 1.3 litre petrol engine. The Qashai has two power outputs for this engine: 140PS & 160PS, where the 140PS is only available in manual and the 160PS is available in manual or in a Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) automatic. Only the 160PS DCT is available on the X-Trail.
When it comes to diesel engines, both the Nissan Qashqai and the Nissan X-Trail offer a 1.7 150PS engine. With the X-Trail, both the 2WD and 4WD versions are available in both manual and Xtronic, while the Qashqai offers the 2WD and 4WD in manual, but only the 4WD version is available in Xtronic. The Qashqai also offers a 1.5 115PS diesel engine in both manual and DCT that isn’t available with the X-Trail.
